How DTM generates explanations, uses calculated context and handles credit limits.
Last updated October 8, 2026Purpose and limitations
DTM uses AI, currently supplied through OpenAI, to explain economic facts and calculated research results. AI explanations can contain factual, numerical or interpretive mistakes and are not an independent authoritative data source. They do not assess your personal finances or provide personalized investment advice. Verify important claims against the cited sources and underlying calculations. Statistical association does not establish causation or a reliable forecast.
Shared and cached explanations
Some explanations are generated in advance or reused for matching analytical contexts. A cache hit does not mean new analysis was generated or that source data was refreshed. Check the observation periods, source dates and generation information shown with the result; these describe different events and are not live market quotes. Do not assume a result was freshly generated when a generation date is unavailable.
Standard content can be unavailable when no approved explanation exists; custom inference depends on feature availability and allowance. AI explanations are not represented as universally reviewed by a human. Report suspected errors through support or feedback.
Inputs and provider processing
The provider receives instructions and constructed research context, including selected series, dates, transforms, calculated statistics and methodology. DTM constructs these requests without account email, passwords, display names or private saved-study titles. Account IDs are recorded separately in DTM usage and credit records. Do not submit personal information, credentials or confidential third-party material.
DTM retains selected snapshots, explanations and telemetry under the Privacy Notice. Matching nonpersonal outputs can be shared or reused; private saved-account information is not intended for shared output. API request settings do not guarantee zero retention by the provider. Provider terms, controls and applicable settings govern its processing; this notice does not claim a particular provider retention exemption or training configuration.
Allowances and failures
AI credits in account settings shows applicable allowances, available balances, pending reservations and the reset period. Available standard and cached explanations are unmetered; fresh eligible custom work and Deep Destroy reserve credits in their respective allowances. Successful work settles the reservation. Failed work does not permanently consume a credit, and uncertain outcomes are reconciled to prevent double consumption.
Unused credits do not roll over. Exhaustion prevents further metered requests until reset or an authorized allowance change. There is no automatic paid overage. See the Subscription Terms for standard Pro allowances and billing terms.
Reading and sharing results
Treat result text as an AI-generated explanation that may contain errors. Verify important claims against cited sources and source-specific periods. Preserve applicable source credits and dates when sharing eligible excerpts. Do not present an explanation as personalized advice or an endorsed statement from a data provider.
