Sources Attribution and Methodology
Original sources, acquisition routes, transformations and reuse conditions.
Last updated October 8, 2026Data provenance
DTM combines source observations with its own transformations, statistical calculations and explanations. Observation periods, release dates, historical vintages, retrieval times and AI generation times are different events. Use the source and methodology information accompanying a result; a retrieval or generation time does not make a historical observation a live quote.
Coverage and vintages vary by series. Historical tools do not promise a vintage where verified coverage is unavailable. News discovery times are not independently verified article publication times. Downloads and shared excerpts remain subject to the original source's rights and required notices.
Public source directory
- FRED and ALFRED, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis: economic series and available historical vintages. Individual series pages identify original producers, including the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, Federal Reserve and Energy Information Administration. A FRED acquisition route is not a transfer of the original owner’s rights.
- U.S. Treasury: official daily Treasury yield data used in eligible yield-curve features.
- World Bank Commodity Price Data (Pink Sheet): monthly gold-price history. See the gold notice below.
- NBER business-cycle dating: reference recession chronology where used. DTM calculations and interpretations are its own.
- GDELT and Google News: headline discovery with links to original publishers. Discovery does not license full articles or publisher images.
Methods and dates
See Methodology and Data for transformations, units, seasonal-adjustment context, missing data, statistics and historical limitations. Indicator pages link their source series. WTI spot crude and the broad dollar index are distinct from futures returns and ICE’s DXY; monthly averages can be constructed from available daily observations. DTM labels calculated changes separately from raw observations. Check the accompanying dates and coverage before interpreting or sharing a result.
FRED API notice
This product uses the FRED® API but is not endorsed or certified by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
FRED API Terms of Use · FRED service terms. DTM’s Terms of Use incorporate the API terms for applicable features. Original-owner credits and source-specific restrictions still apply; this notice does not represent endorsement or blanket permission to redistribute every FRED series. Separate FRED graph-image terms apply to actual FRED graph images.
Gold data and changes
Gold data is from the World Bank Commodity Price Data (Pink Sheet), with monthly history from 1960. See the dataset, World Bank dataset terms and CC BY 4.0, subject to any dataset-specific exceptions and third-party rights. DTM stores and presents the data and may calculate changes or analytical results; those transformations are not World Bank endorsement.
The source methodology changed in June 2025. DTM’s gold metadata and methodology describe this break; compare periods with that limitation in mind. Gold observations are monthly averages in U.S. dollars per troy ounce, not an executable spot quote or investment total return.
News and reuse
Headline links identify the publisher and lead to the original article. Publication, correction and removal of the article remain the publisher's responsibility. DTM does not claim ownership of linked news or permission to reproduce full articles.
A DTM download does not grant blanket dataset redistribution rights. Preserve original-provider credits, source links, periods and applicable license notices, and identify DTM transformations when sharing eligible material. Public-domain and open-license rights remain independently available. Restricted third-party content needs permission from the rights holder.
